And we’re back from P. Carey, Selangor! It was another hot, hot day as the Mah Meri confirmed it barely rained in their village over the past month. And such hot & dry weather made pandanus weaving too taxing as the pandanus strips became too brittle. Hence, we only picked up half a bag of assorted crafts!
The only good use for such sunny days is charging solar lamps like this one donated to Gendoi Pe’ah (70s) of the Sg Mata hamlet. This mini unit (seen at bottom left) is useful for elders who only need to light up their small homes. Each cost RM65 though via our matching grants scheme, artisans only pay an affordable RM30 to replace their kerosene lamps. However this particular unit was sponsored in full by Kanta Portraits, via sales of their commissioned work. Thanks for the gift of light!
