Interview with NML Residency & Nusantara Archive

My latest thoughts and exploration on the project– Interview with

NML Residency & Nusantara Archive is happy to invite the Malaysian artist Jeffrey to revisit Taiwan with his Kanta Box Kamra. He had exhibited “Kanta Portraits: Taiwan” in Petamu (2018) and taken photos in many indigenous tribes in Taiwan. Such fieldwork also raised our curiosity about “colonial archive”, the categorization system by Japanese anthropologists, and their way of seeing. During the residency he encounters the first comparative reading of “type photographs” and his genuine methodology. The difference also leads to how the representation of (self) images are meant to the subjects, and the potential way to map “Nusantara archive” in the future. “From Archive to Tribes in Taiwan and Malaysia – Jeffrey Lim’s KANTA Portraits” (English): http://www.heath.tw/nml-article/from-archive-to-tribes-in-asia-jeffrey-lims-kanta-portraits/?lang=en
